Herbs are used to garnish our meals and add some extra flavor to our tomato sauce, but can we use them for alternative uses? When ill, many people head to the doctor to get a prescription for drugs. However, just opening up your cupboard and taking a look at the plentiful herbs you have, you may be able to cure yourself. Vitamin K, A, Zea-xanthin, Calcium, and Iron are all found in basil. 100 grams of fresh basil leaves contain 5275 mg of vitamin A, which is 175% of your daily recommended dose. Vitamin A acts as an antioxidant and is crucial for vision. Vitamin K assists in the production of clotting in the blood as well as helps with bone strengthening and mineralization. For Iron, 100 grams of basil contains 26% of your body's recommended dose. Iron acts as a component for hemoglobin in red blood cells. Though many have not heard of Zeaxanthin, it helped in protecting from age-related macular diseases as well as filtering harmful UV rays from reaching the retina.

Though this is just a small herb, don't underestimate the power and need of basil. Whether you have it dried, oil, or fresh, by using basil in your kitchen, you are increasing your health.
