What Are the Dangers of Poor Food Choices?
Hamburgers, pretzels, pizza and candy - everyone loves to take a bite out of a juicy burger or snack on a bag of chips. There are times when you just can’t resist and there isn’t anything wrong with treating yourself to a bit of temptation. However, sometimes we get carried away and forget about moderation. Not eating healthy food in moderation may propose a grave danger on our health. As many of us have heard the phrase, “you are what you eat”, which tie in directly on how one should eat. Though you may feel good eating that greasy pizza, you highly endanger your health with each bite. Here are some of the dangers that occur with poor food choices.
Food is fuel for your body. That being said, what you eat has a direct impact on how you feel inside and out. Unhealthy food, such as fast foods, are loaded with sugar, carbohydrates, salt and saturated fats. Combined with the additional calories, this can make you feel sluggish and depressed. Without any exercise, this feeling will only increase as the pounds add on. Your lowered energy levels will start you in a downhill spiral into inactivity.
With a poor diet, you will most likely be missing essential vitamins, fiber and nutrients that create a successful daily bowel movement. Instead, you will be constipated with excessive gas - meaning that your food isn’t moving properly through your digestive tract. A healthy bowel movement is one that is solid, easily passed and is occurring daily. This lack of daily bowel movements can cause further health issues.
High Cholesterol and Heart Disease
High cholesterol and heart disease go hand-in-hand as high cholesterol is a high contributing factor to the latter. Foods containing high amounts of saturated fats are the main factors with heart disease. Which means foods like cheese, red meat, and deep fried foods are to be eaten in limited amounts. Staying away from fattening foods will reduce the chances of cholesterol building up and hardening in your arteries. If your arteries are clogged, the blood cannot be properly pumped to the heart and throughout the rest of your body.
Remember, you are what you eat! Though you can eat these foods in moderation, remember to try to focus on eating fresh fruits and vegetables with limited amounts of meat. By doing so, you’ll be eating clean and your body will thank you.
